PocketRocket Host release notes

What’s new in PocketRocket Host.

PocketRocket Host updates itself, between sessions. Here’s what changed in each release.

PocketRocket Host

  1. Version 0.1.9 (430)

    Latest
    • Desktops now stay the way you arranged them during a session. If you add, remove or reorder desktops in Mission Control, or move windows between them while connected, each window returns after disconnecting to the desktop with the same number it had when the session ended.
    • Window sizes and positions are still restored from before the session.
    • macOS doesn’t let apps reorder desktops, so the host moves windows rather than desktops—per-desktop wallpapers stay with their desktops.
  2. Version 0.1.9 (429)

    • Key Sharing is now called Online Key Sharing.
    • Share Screen… always shows its own code, with Allow permanent access and Allow connections without approval; while Online Key Sharing is on, it also has Copy Link. The page from the link has a separate code, and both work at the same time.
    • Each code from the link works once and, by default, gives a single connection that you approve on the Mac; then the device is forgotten. The new Allow permanent access switch remembers devices instead.
    • Settings no longer shows the current code or the full link—just Copy Link and New Link….
    • Security improvements to Online Key Sharing.
    • Fixed how the code looks in Share Screen….
  3. Version 0.1.9 (425)

    • Security and privacy improvements to Online Key Sharing and connections.
    • Allow connections without approval replaces the earlier approval switches in Share Screen…, Paired Devices and Online Key Sharing—off by default, with a warning when you turn it on.
    • With Online Key Sharing on, Share Screen… shows the current code with Copy Link; the full link and New Link… stay in Settings › Paired Devices.
    • A copied Online Key Sharing link stays on this Mac and leaves the clipboard after about two minutes, or as soon as a guest connects.
    • Removing a device paired with the key offers Remove and Create New Link.
    • A notification for every pairing with the key, and a warning before you turn on Online Key Sharing with connections without approval allowed.
    • The Online Key Sharing link works only through the relay.
  4. Version 0.1.9 (422)

    • Online Key Sharing: a secret link that always shows the current pairing code, off by default. Devices paired with it wait for your approval.
    • Better with Tailscale and other VPNs: with direct connections allowed, a VPN session stays put, and VPN addresses over IPv6 are recognized.
  5. Version 0.1.9 (421)

    • With Keep running on, the app menu also says Restart instead of Quit.
  6. Version 0.1.9 (420)

    • With Keep running on, Quit in the menu bar becomes Restart, with a hint on how to quit for good.
  7. Version 0.1.9 (419)

    • Fixed a freeze of about 30 seconds when the PocketRocket app came back from the background.
    • Display scale is now changed only in the PocketRocket app; PocketRocket Host no longer has a scaling slider, pane or shortcuts.
    • Better compatibility with display utilities around a session.
  8. Version 0.1.9 (414)

    • A closed MacBook on power stays awake during a session, with the help of a small helper, and your own sleep settings stay untouched. Turn it off in Settings › General.
    • Smoother start and end of a session: displays switch off and come back one step at a time, without resolution changes.
    • With the lid closed, every display—an external one too—goes dark for the session.

Security fixes are described in general terms. Test builds are included in the first release that brought them to everyone.
