How do I install PocketRocket?

Install PocketRocket Host on your Mac from its disk image, move it to Applications and allow the permissions macOS asks for. Then install the PocketRocket app on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro or another Mac, signed in to the same Apple Account. Open the app, and your Mac appears as a tile⁠—tap it to connect.

Download PocketRocket Host (.dmg)

PocketRocket Host needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26.1 or later.

Install the host before you leave home.

  1. Open the disk image and drag PocketRocket Host to Applications⁠—the camera and updates need it there.
  2. Open it⁠—it appears in the menu bar.
  3. Allow what macOS asks for: Screen Recording, Accessibility, system audio recording and local network access; enter your administrator password for the microphone plug-in and approve the camera extension.
  4. Turn on Start at login.

First setup needs a display⁠—or Screen Sharing⁠—once; after that, your Mac works without a monitor attached.

Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Updates itself.

  • Both devices use the same Apple Account.
  • PocketRocket Host is running⁠—look for the rocket in the menu bar.
  • If the app says it’s waiting for the encryption key of your Mac from iCloud, give iCloud a moment.
  • In PocketRocket Host settings, at least one connection path is allowed.
  • Your Mac is on and awake⁠—PocketRocket can’t wake it from sleep. Keep your Mac from sleeping in System Settings.

How do I install PocketRocket?

PocketRocket Host is signed with Developer ID, distributed outside the Mac App Store and keeps itself up to date. Use the same Apple Account on your Mac and your device.

Does PocketRocket work with an Intel-based Mac?

No: PocketRocket Host runs only on Mac computers with Apple silicon and macOS 26.1 or later.

What are PocketRocket’s system requirements?

How does PocketRocket find my Mac without an IP address?

Through iCloud: PocketRocket Host publishes the name and public key of your Mac to your iCloud account, and devices on the same Apple Account get a tile for it automatically.
