# Does Mac Virtual Display work over the internet?

Updated September 30, 2026 · Checked against Apple Support (page dated September 14, 2026)

No, not according to Apple. Mac Virtual Display needs your Mac and Apple Vision Pro within about 10 meters (30 feet) of each other, signed in to the same Apple Account, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. When your Mac is at home and you’re not, PocketRocket brings it into Apple Vision Pro over the internet instead.

## What is Mac Virtual Display good at?

*In the room: Mac Virtual Display.*

It turns Apple Vision Pro into a private, portable display for a Mac in the room: up to 5K in 16:9 on a Mac with Apple silicon, plus wide and ultrawide layouts up to 10240 × 2880 pixels. The sound of your Mac plays in Apple Vision Pro, and there’s nothing to install.

## Where does Mac Virtual Display stop?

*Where it stops.*

According to Apple, it connects to one Mac at a time, shows only the main display of your Mac when several are connected, and needs both devices close together. System sounds such as notifications still play on the Mac, and iPhone Mirroring can’t run at the same time.

## How do I use my Mac with Apple Vision Pro when I’m traveling?

*Miles away: PocketRocket.*

Install PocketRocket Host on the Mac and PocketRocket on Apple Vision Pro, signed in to the same Apple Account. Your Mac then appears in a 16:9 window from 1600 × 900 to 9600 × 5400 points, pinned in your space, over your local network, a VPN, a direct connection or a relay.

PocketRocket streams at up to 60 fps (displayed at 90 Hz) and doesn’t share a camera from Apple Vision Pro. You can also open another Mac in another window.
